The mushroom that teaches the evening to slow down

A traditional wood-growing mushroom placed inside an evening ritual, with honest limits on what the science actually shows.

Reishi mushroom, Ganoderma lucidum, is selected for Clekina's Sleep & Recovery Collection as a carefully considered evening ritual rather than a promise of immediate sleep.

Reishi does not look like an ordinary mushroom.

It has no soft cap made for frying. Its fruiting body is firm, woody and often lacquered in shades of red-brown, amber and deep mahogany. It grows from wood like a polished shelf of time.

In China, it is commonly known as lingzhi. In Japan, reishi.

Its traditional reputation is long. But longevity should never become a careless product promise.

The real story is already enough.

Where it comes from

Reishi is a wood-decaying fungus whose fruiting body has been used in East Asian traditions for centuries. Modern products may contain fruiting-body powder, concentrated extracts, mycelium, spores or combinations of these materials.

They are not interchangeable.

A trustworthy product should identify the species, fungal part, cultivation substrate and extraction process clearly. Clekina should only use terms such as fruiting body, hardwood-grown, dual-extracted, standardised for beta-glucans or standardised for triterpenes when supplier documentation and batch analysis confirm them.

The mushroom gives the story.

The specification tells us what is actually inside the capsule or cup.

What the science says

Reishi contains several groups of compounds, including polysaccharides such as beta-glucans and a range of triterpenoids. These compounds have been studied in laboratory, animal and human research involving immune signalling and other biological pathways.

One controlled study investigated a particular reishi-derived beta-glucan preparation in healthy adults and reported changes in selected immune measurements. That result belongs to the specific preparation, dose and population studied. It does not prove that every reishi product "boosts immunity" or prevents illness.

Across human trials more broadly, products, doses and study populations vary considerably, and the overall certainty of evidence remains low.

- Reishi does not cure insomnia - It does not guarantee deeper sleep - It does not prevent disease - It does not promise longevity - It does not support cancer recovery unless used within qualified medical care

The honest position is that reishi is a traditional mushroom with distinctive polysaccharides and triterpenoids, alongside developing but product-specific human research.

Why this version

Clekina places reishi in an evening ritual because the format itself can encourage a slower ending to the day.

- Hot water - Bitterness - Steam - A cup held in both hands

That ritual should not be confused with a proven sedative effect. Human evidence is not strong enough to claim that reishi improves sleep or treats insomnia.

Extraction should be transparent. Hot water is commonly used to obtain water-soluble polysaccharides, while alcohol may be used to extract less water-soluble triterpenoids. A "dual-extract" claim should appear only when both stages are confirmed for the finished ingredient.

Reishi may interact with anticoagulant, antiplatelet, immunosuppressive or cancer treatments. Rare cases of clinically apparent liver injury have also been reported, although the evidence is limited and such cases appear extremely uncommon. Anyone taking medication, preparing for surgery, pregnant, breastfeeding or managing a liver condition should seek professional advice before use.

Frequently asked questions

What is reishi?

Reishi is a traditional wood-growing mushroom commonly identified as Ganoderma lucidum.

What is the difference between fruiting body and mycelium?

The fruiting body is the visible mushroom; mycelium is the underlying fungal network. Their composition can differ.

Does reishi improve sleep?

There is not enough reliable human evidence to describe reishi as a sleep treatment.

Why are some reishi products dual-extracted?

Water and alcohol can extract different groups of mushroom compounds.

The day does not always need one more demand.

Sometimes it needs a clear ending.
