What a regenerative meadow looks like in year seven

Origins · Sigrún Ólafsdóttir · February 4, 2026

We followed a single Icelandic plot for seven years. The soil tells the story better than we can.

Regenerative agriculture is a long argument with the soil. You leave it alone. You rotate. You plant deep-rooted natives. You wait. In year one, very little visibly changes. In year seven, almost everything has.

Carbon content in the topsoil has tripled. Earthworm density is up by an order of magnitude. The plants we did not plant, clover, yarrow, wild thyme, have arrived on their own.
