A standardised curcumin extract placed inside a measured daily movement-care ritual, clarity over hype.

Curcumin is a naturally occurring curcuminoid from the turmeric plant, Curcuma longa, selected for Clekina’s Joint & Mobility Collection as part of a measured daily movement-care ritual.

Turmeric does not begin as a supplement.

It begins in warm soil as a golden rhizome, the underground stem commonly called a root. Before it is measured, extracted or placed into a capsule, turmeric belongs to food, colour, kitchens, hands and memory.

- It is the stain on fingertips - The warmth in a pot - The spice that refuses to disappear from a wooden board

Where it comes from

Turmeric has a long history as a culinary ingredient and within several traditional wellness systems. Its yellow colour comes largely from curcuminoids, a group of naturally occurring compounds that includes curcumin.

Whole turmeric and a standardised curcumin extract are not the same. Turmeric powder can vary according to plant variety, growing conditions, harvest, drying and storage. A standardised extract is produced to provide a measured curcuminoid content from one batch to the next.

The rhizome gives the story.

Standardisation gives the consistency.

Clekina should only publish an exact curcuminoid percentage, extraction ratio, country of origin or branded ingredient when it is confirmed by the supplier specification and Certificate of Analysis.

What the science says

Curcumin is widely studied in laboratory and human research, including research concerning inflammatory-signalling and oxidative-stress pathways. But inflammation is not simply something to eliminate. It forms part of the body’s normal response to injury, infection, exercise and repair. Mechanistic research should therefore not be converted into treatment promises.

- Curcumin does not cure inflammation - It does not treat arthritis - It does not repair joints - It does not replace pain medication or medical care

Research concerning turmeric or curcumin for osteoarthritis-related symptoms is encouraging in places, but differences between formulations, doses and study quality mean that firm conclusions remain difficult. For an EU-facing food supplement, direct claims about relieving joint pain or maintaining joint function require specific legal review.

Why this version

Clekina selects a standardised curcumin extract rather than relying on an unspecified quantity of turmeric powder. The purpose is clarity: a defined ingredient, measurable curcuminoid content and consistent batch documentation.

Curcumin is naturally difficult for the body to absorb. Some formulas use piperine from black pepper or other formulation technologies to increase bioavailability. Any branded black-pepper extract or enhanced-absorption claim must be verified for the finished product.

Take curcumin according to the final label, preferably with a meal. Increased-bioavailability products deserve particular care because concentrated curcumin and piperine may affect medicine metabolism, and rare cases of liver injury have been associated especially with some high-dose or enhanced-bioavailability turmeric products.

Speak with a clinician before use if pregnant, breastfeeding, taking regular medication, managing liver or gallbladder concerns, or preparing for surgery.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between turmeric and curcumin?

Turmeric is the whole rhizome; curcumin is one of its principal curcuminoid compounds.

Why choose a standardised extract?

Standardisation provides a measured curcuminoid content and better batch-to-batch consistency.

Why do some formulas contain black pepper extract?

Piperine is used in some products to increase curcumin bioavailability, but it may also increase interaction concerns. Can curcumin treat joint pain or arthritis? No. Clekina does not position curcumin as a treatment for pain, inflammation or arthritis.

This is not a miracle capsule.

It is a golden rhizome, carefully measured and placed inside the slower practice of caring for movement.
